Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are looking forward to another wonderful year here at Twin Oaks  Elementary School. We are continuing to grow not only in our enrollment (as we are now officially over 590 students) but also in the programs that we are offering students to ensure that they are prepared for Middle School and beyond.

When you arrive on campus,  you will see signage throughout the school that focuses on positive expectations for our students. These expectations are foundation to The Leader in Me & PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports). As a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, we focus on instilling pride in leadership, responsibility, and success for all through the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  For more information, please visit our website!  Through the Leader in Me, staff developed a “Code of Conduct” which dovetails beautifully with the behavior expectations of PBIS.  Please take a moment to review our LIM/PBIS Handbook.  We need your help in establishing and promoting positive behavior by modeling it as adults.  Our handbook contains the lessons we teach throughout the year. And you can help us by actively modeling these expectations each day!

We will also continue serving all students during Walk to Learn. Walk to Learn is an instructional model Twin Oaks has had in place for almost ten years.  It is a dedicated 40-minute block of time within each day in which grade levels are provided additional support to address the identified academic needs of all students...those who may struggle to those who excel.

Last year a team of staff and parents completed a “refresh” of our Strategic Plan. Our updated 3-year plan, strategies, and action items can also be found on our school website.  We will build teams to initiate some of the action items this year. If you would like to join one of our teams, please let me know...parent input is critical to our success.

We will also continue our focus on social/emotional learning, being mindful and accepting of others. In my summer reading I came across the term “Cultural Humility.”  Not a new concept, but the term resonated with me. We are all unique and need to remember to celebrate diversity. How boring would the world be if we were all the same? Peter Spiers book, People, is wonderful example of how colorful our world is with all of us in it!

Twin Oaks Elementary School is a wonderful community.  We are who we are due to the amazing support of our hardworking staff, our parent volunteers and PTC, and the energy of our truly amazing students. Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!
